Christmas 2009

Christmas 2009 was a wonderful event. Santa Claus brought Hannah everything she asked for and in doing so left a boot print mess all over my house!! (Santa leaves magic dust, boot prints where ever he walks.) We were pleased to see that he enjoyed the milk and cookies (chocolate milk of course, Hannah wouldn't allow Santa to drink anything less). This really was the first year that Eli understood what was going on, and was able to open his presents all by himself. Hannah of course is an old pro and didn't waste any time being awe struck. She went straight to work. Here are a few snap shots of our Christmas....

Eli's F150. Santa had to bring it since Hannah asked him for a riding toy for Eli so that they could ride together. I think she was more excited than Eli, and I was shocked at how quickly he caught onto how to drive it.

This morning Hannah and I were sitting on her bedroom floor so that I could do her hair when all of a sudden Eli, trying to walk backwards, tripped over his own feet and accidentally stepped on Hannah's foot (with is boots on). Hannah began to throw a major fit, when I explained that Eli didn't mean to hurt her, he lost his balance. And she replied, "Is he trying to find it?"

Thursday was pajama day for Hannah's class, and that afternoon they had their Christmas Party. It was a very simple celebration of food, which I love!~ First we made reindeer food to put in the yard on Christmas Eve to help attract Santa's reindeer. Then Mrs. Holden read the class the story The Night Before Christmas. And then it was time to chow down on some Christmas Tree Cake, brownies, chips, and dip. Nothing healthy in sight! I love it!! After finishing their treats the kids received their stockings filled with all kinds of goodies, and sang We Wish You A Merry Christmas for the parents. The kids all had a wonderful time, and look forward to attending their next celebration!!

Eli's Christmas Program

Last week Eli's teacher mentioned that their Christmas Program would be held on Tuesday, and she wanted to know if I was going to bring Eli (since he doesn't attend school on Tuesday). I, thinking that his class was too young to actually be in the program, said no, I wasn't planning on it. Well, Tuesday afternoon arrived and she called to let me know that the program had been rescheduled for Wednesday, she wanted to let me know in case we wanted to stay for it. Then the light bulb that has been dull in my brain for weeks now flashed on, Eli's class IS in the program. I felt like a real doof. ANYWAY, Ben and I dropped Eli of at his class and then headed into the main hall to wait for the program. I must say that I am very glad we attended. The children are no older than 4, and they all did a marvelous job singing Christmas songs and representing the birth of Jesus. Eli's class's part was the very last song. They came out with little reindeer hats on their heads. SO CUTE! Of course my child refused to wear the reindeer hat and began to cry as soon as he turned around and saw all of those parents staring at him. I definitely do not see a drama career in his future. The program was still wonderful and a great joy to watch. I haven't smiled so much in weeks!! (Sorry there aren't any pictures, but Eli's class was sitting on the floor in front of the stage so all we could see were the tops of their heads!!)

Craziness and all the stuff in between......

Life has been so overwhelming as of late that I can't even remember anything great to write about. I will tell you that I am sick of the holidays and we still have three weeks to go. I am ready for life to get back to normal! Eli and I have done nothing but run from place to place the since Thanksgiving. I realize it is a special time, but I wish there was less gas usage involved.

Anyway......I finally took down the crib. It was a very sad moment since the crib was hand made, by a dear friend of our family Mr. Robbie, for Hannah. I've taken the crib apart and will be wrapping it with all the love I can find since it will remain packed away until Hannah or Eli have children. (Let's all hope that is at least 25 years from now!!! Hannah has medical school to get through and Eli has a golf career to work on!!!) Here is a picture of Eli's room crib free. Seems empty doesn't it?

I recently down loaded The Incredibles onto my Iphone to use in moments of desperation. You know those moments...when you've been sitting in a waiting room for an hour and your child is working himself into a frenzy. Yep, those moments. Well, I have found it works amazingly well anytime I need to distract Eli, especially when shopping. Yes, I know I'm a terrible mother, but I'll live with that knowledge. ANYWAY, Eli really enjoys watching his movie on the Iphone and if he sees my phone will ask to "watch." While walking through Sam's the other day, Ben took one look at Eli and Hannah sitting in the cart watching the Iphone and came to the conclusion that our children are spoiled. His words, "Our two year old is watching a movie on an Iphone." My response, "Yes, but is he misbehaving?" I received a cute smirk for my remark. I'm not a bad mother, I'm a genius!!! I was hoping to head to North Carolina for the Christmas week, but I think Hannah has nipped that in the bud. She is convinced that we can't go anywhere because Santa won't know we're gone and will still bring the presents to our house. She is very worried about this, and I just can't believe how much she has grown. This is the first year that she has truly begun to understand Santa Claus. Now we have to work on understanding that Christmas is about giving, not receiving. We're still working on that concept.
